The Sacred Way winds up the mountain to the Temple of Apollo. Here, you can see the gymnasium in the background and the Sacred Way going past the rubble. The road was once littered with monuments, statues, and treasuries for storing the expensive dedications.
Close to the Sacred Way's beginning, this semi-circle once displayed kings of Argos. Only the bases with the names inscribed on them have survived. The Emperor Nero carted about 500 statues off to Rome in the 1st century CE, and the rest were looted or melted down after the sancturary fell into disuse.
The Treasury of the Athenians was put back together by French archaeologists in the early 20th century. It was originally decorated with an intricate frieze depicting the labors of Heracles and of Theseus. The original fragments are in the museum.

The Temple of Apollo - or what's left of it. These few columns were re-erected by the French. Inside this temple, according to Pausanias, were found the tomb of Dionysos, the omphalos (navel-stone which indicates the center of the world), and the chamber where the Pythian priestess pronounced the oracles from Apollo.

The theater was right next to the temple. Apollo was the god of music, and the Pythian Games included contests in music as well as athletics.
